Stockholm, the capital and largest city in Sweden is a charming amalgamation of gushing waterways, jade parks and marvelous architecture. The city is spread across 14 islands, interconnected by over 50 bridges and houses over 24.000 islets. Stockholm’s history dates back to the thirteenth century when Birger Jarl, a Swedish Statesman first laid the foundations to a major city that would protect the country from attackers and raiders. Even back then, this place had a major harbor that was well known all over Europe. This city is now a flourishing metropolis, that’s famous for its pavement cafes and stylish boutiques. Gamla Stan or the Old Town is the heart of the city and is famous for its modern buildings, restaurants, bars, hotels and shopping centers that coexist with well preserved old monuments. Take a ferry trip to cover the Stockholm Archipelago, one of the most breathtaking sights in the world. Other places to visit include The Royal Palace, Stadshuset, Globen, the Vasa Museum and the Avenyn. There are lots of excursions and tour options to take from Stockholm. Summer is the best time to visit, when the days are long and nightlife is exciting. Winter’s a good time for ice skating. The Old Town has lots of interesting restaurants. While you’re in Stockholm, don’t miss a night out at Stureplan, a happening nightlife district.
