Based in Copenhagen, Denmark Sterling is the first Scandinavian low-cost airline with direct routes between Scandinavia and Southern Europe as well as between the Scandinavian countries. It is Europe's fourth-largest low-cost airline, and the largest in Scandinavia, with both scheduled and charter flights to more than 40 destinations in Europe.

In 2004, Sterling flew 2 million passengers between Scandinavia and Southern Europe. Sterlings fleet consists of 29 Boeing aircraft.

In September 2005, Sterling merged with Maersk Air to become Sterling Airlines A/S. Sterling is a part of the FL Group.
