Changzhi, China, travel information

Changzhi is an inland city of Shanxi Province in northern China with a population of around 500,000 people. It is a secondary industrial center and a center for transportation mainly because of its strategic location where it lies between several towns.

The economy of the city is derived from its industries that manufacture and produce iron, steel and machinery. These industries are also being aided by the city’s mining industry and sites that are rich in coal, iron ore, and asbestos and are transported by land to other areas.

The city is also considered as one the ancient cities in the province. It had been in existence since the Shang Dynasty, of which it was known as Luan. Besides being known as an ancient city, Changzhi is laso famous for the local dangshen or asiabell, and for the locally manufactured fermented beverage called lujiu.
