Changsha is located on the lower reaches of the Xiang River and is the capital city of the south-central province of Hunan. The city was the spot where the communism conversion of Mao Zedong took place and the battle ground of the Sino-Japanese War. Today however, the city is a major port, commercial, and industrial center.

In contemporary times, the city has become a creative center for TV and entertainment arts, which brought a spanking entertainment industry that carried along with it the growth of singing bars, dance clubs, theater shows, hair salons, and fashion stores in the area.

Laid-back tourist can avoid the clubs of the city and instead visit the Hunan Provincial Museum or take a stroll at the Xiang and Changsha’s riverbanks at night. It is best to visit during the summer months where one can taste a variety of hot spicy snacks at night.
