Cambridge Bay, Canada, travel information
Cambridge Bay is a small village in the south coast of Victoria Island in Nunavut Canada. The village is a traditional hunting and fishing location with archaeological sites. Barren-ground caribou, arctic char, lake trout, and ringed seal are primary food sources before and until today.
Cambridge Bay has its own northern historical significance. It was the site of Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Hudson Bay’s company in the 1920’s and became a Distant Early Warning Line site after World War II.
This small village has a population of less than 2,000 people of which eighty percent Inuit (Arctic people). Its people speak mainly the Inuinnaqtun language which is written using the Latin alphabet. It is also a typical stop for passenger and research vessels traversing the Northwest Passage.
