British Airways is the one of the world's largest and most successful international airlines, carrying around 36 million passengers to 500 destinations around the world. The airline's two main operating bases are London's two main airports, Heathrow (the world's busiest international airport) and Gatwick.
British Airways Group fleet as at 31 March 2005 comprised of 290 aircraft. The fleet includes 57 Boeing 747s, 43 Boeing 777s, 21 Boeing 767s, 13 Boeing 757s, 65 Airbus A319/320/321s, 33 Boeing 737s and 58 smaller aircraft used in the company's regional business.
An average of 47,472 staff were employed by British Airways worldwide in 2004-2005, around 85 per cent of them based in the UK. During 2004/05 the airline made an operating profit of £540 million.
e-ticket is now the standard ticket format for British Airways, making flight ticketing more straightforward, flexible and secure. Online Check-in is available for all customers 24 hours before a flight for travel from 95% of airports worldwide. British Airways have also installed more than 200 kiosks at 39 major airports across the UK, Europe and at JFK airport in New York.
