Aleppo is the second largest city in Syria with a population of 1.7 million. It is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the Middle East that every tourist must see.

As an Islamic country, you will find that the people follow the tradition of saying their prayers five times a day and this is cued by the calls from the mosques.

A must see in the area is the citadel which sits on a hill located in the center of the city. The citadel dates back from the 3rd millennium BC and tours are conducted daily.

Another must see is the Saint Simeon’s basilica which is considered to be a major center of pilgrimage. The church was built around the pillar of St. Simeon the Stylite and is surrounded by beautiful grounds.

Friday is considered as holy and you will find that most shops and historic sites are closed at this day.
