Aksu, China, travel information

Located 120 kilometers south of Khodzhent city, the region of Aksu is truly breathtaking with its majestic mountains and lush, unspoiled natural beauty. Vertical rock granite peaks reach heights of up to 1,500 meters high and are often more than 5,000 meters above sea level.

Aksu was first explored in 1982 when a helicopter decided to examine the highest peaks in the Turkestanskiy range. Mountaineers were stunned by the verticality of the north face of the Aksu triangle which dominated all the other 5,000 meter peaks in the region. This region was then the choice for the 1983 Soviet Alpinist Championship which led to its popularity. The Alai Alpine Camp was settled along the Aksu River’s green banks in 1983 at 2,800 meters above sea level and is connected with the town of Khodzhent through a working road. Lovely peaks and valleys which characterize the landscape make this an ideal hiking and horseback riding spot.
