Ajaccios is a commune and Corsica’s capital region and the prefecture of the Corse-du-Sude department. Located on Corsica’s west coast 390 kilometers of southeastern Marseille, Ajaccio sits in a sheltered nook at the base of wooded hills in the north shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio. On the east lies the harbor of the site of the foundation at the original citadel on a hill which overlooks a peninsula protecting the southern harbor.
