Agen, France, travel information
Halfway between Toulouse and Bordeaux you will find the ‘land of prunes,’ Agen. This charming city offers an array of gothic arches, a covered marketplace which opens daily, narrow alleys from medieval times, canals and rivers. Agen residents are avid rugby fans and are warm and extremely friendly. Nearby villages provide the prunes which are distributed from Agen, causing Agen to become known for prunes rather than the surrounding villages.
La Musee Pruneau Gourmand is a great destination for those interested in the history of Agen’s most popular crop. A prune maze is open from July until September. Shops around the area prepare prunes in every way you can possibly imagine. The Walibi Aquitaine amusement park is another great place to visit and is part of the Six Flags Europe chain of parks. Plant lovers will need to visit Vegetales Visions which feature plants from five different continents as well as a zen garden, a botanical garden and an exotic garden.
