Adler/Sochi is a resort city in Krasnodar Krai just north of Russia’s southern border. It spans along the Black Sea shores and is framed by the majestic snowy peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. With a population of 395,012, the Adler/Sochi city is the selected venue of the 2014 XXII Olympic Winter Games. Adler/Sochi is distinctive among larger cities of Russia as possessing subtropical resort qualities. Aside from the stunning Caucasus Mountains and sandy pebbled beaches, the city attracts vacationers with its monuments, subtropical vegetation, many parks and abundant Stalinist architecture.

This city is also home to Kinotavr, which is a film festival held annually as well as a entryway to the Russia’s elite. Just north from the city, the 2,957 square meters Caucasian Biosphere Reserve has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Adler/Sochi is also home to Europe’s northern tea plantations. Currently, a Sochi Light Metro is undergoing construction and plans to be completed in the year 2014.
